App "Waiting for Review" for 10 days?

What would cause an app to still be "Waiting for Review" after 10 days? Apple claims that 90% of apps are reviewed in 48 hours. How is it possible that our app has still not been looked at after 10 days? I tried contacting Apple twice and sent a separate expedition request, considering we have a time-sensitive event regarding this app Friday (tomorrow), but I have not heard any information back on this. Could our app gotten "lost" in the queue? I have been scouring the internet looking for other people's experiences and it seems that everyone else is getting their app reviewed in 1-2 days. How did we get so unlucky?

This is preventing us from launching our company and is really concerning that after 10 days and no response from Apple, we have no idea when the app is going to get reviewed.

I would wait on the expedited request reply, but if still no joy, there is always the hail mary approach where you self-reject and re-submit.

When making these particular types of inquiries, it can help to talk about the app itself - is it a game, about gambling, age restricted for any reason, new or update, category, how many times it's been rejected and resubmitted, what countries it expects to appear in, etc. etc.

Perhaps too late now, but it's best to never assume a sync between an app release and an event. Always get the app in the store first.
