Multiple User App Management

I have an Individual Apple Developer Account and would like to work with some friends/family on an iOS app. Ideally any of them would be able to build and deploy a new version of the app, I don't mind if it always appears under my individual name, these are trusted peers. I am not an organization and don't have any registered LLC, DUNS number, yadda yadda - I'm just a regular ol human wanting to collaborate on an app.

It seems that recently (in the last few months) I am no longer able to add admins or app managers on App Store Connect. And there is no longer the ability to manage users on the Apple Developer Portal, it always redirects you to App Store/iTunes Connect. I can add "Customer Service" users or users that don't have permission to build/deploy the apps, but as soon as I try to upgrade their role I get an error - seemingly due to the fact that I have an individual account.

So, it seems like my options are these:

  1. Share my Apple ID and password so they can load it into their xcode - obviously not preferable given how many other places Apple IDs are used.
  2. Register as an organization and convert my individual account to an organization account - a pain and a lot of paperwork for what is intended to be a relatively simple app.
  3. Have my friends/family tell me whenever a new app version is ready and then I do the build - not ideal, it'd be nice for my co-developers to have some autonomy.

Am I missing any obvious options or workarounds to make this work? And from a larger perspective, why is this restriction in place at all? Does Apple think the only "teams" that develop together belong to the same company/organization? I feel like I must be missing something...
