Installing Catalina on external SSD

Greetings:

I am trying to install 10.15. beta on a Samsung T5. My configuration - MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019) running 10.14.5 (18F203).

I downloaded the Catalina beta, followed the instractions (http://osxdaily.com/2019/06/06/make-macos-catalina-beta-usb-boot-install-drive/)

listed below (RTest is the name of my SSD drive)

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ 10.15\ Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/RTest&& echo Catalina Boot Drive Created

The start disk is created, it runs for 12 min the installer, asks for restart, and the tries to recover via Internet, and finally dies with the error -9000F.

What can I do?"

FYI, I think Catalina has some kind of horrendous logging or just bad support in general for external (USB-C) media. I get anywhere from just 4MB/s to "as much as" 20MB/s on either of my Samsung EVO 840 SSDs. It could honestly be choking just simply because of the performance.

(I get abysmal performance on anything over USB-C, flash drives, 7200 rpm spinning hdds, SSDs (I have four kinds here), even SDHC cards are insanely slow)
