I have a question about an app we’re developing for our customer. We plan to release it as a freemium version. You can download it for free, but the content is limited. With an in-app-purchase you can buy a full version.
But our customer has also plans to give away keycodes which he gives to his custumers for free. For this we need unique keycodes for a single free version each, and also general keycodes which can be printed in magazines and for example allow a free activation of the full app when you use the key before the expiration date.

Also I heard somewhere that Starbucks used keycode mechanisms like this for a campaign in the U.S..Can someone confirm this?
My main question is: How can we use mechanisms like this and avoid with it problems with 11.1. of the App Store Guidelines. There are obviously possible ways and we only need to find out how to use them.
