Sidecar not working, crosschecked all the requirements and steps

What I have done so far:

  • installed latest beta of Catalina on my Early 2016 Macbook 12
  • installed iPadOS on my iPad Air 2
  • Logged out of icloud on both the devices, restarted, logged in on both the devices, restarted.
  • Connected ipad and mac through the lightening cable supplied along with the iphone (and a USBC to USB dongle)
  • Connected on the same Wi-Fi network
  • Connected with bluetooth
  • iPad shows up on finder and music

Still I am not able to see the Sidecar menu on the preferences screen. When trying to open through spotlight search, I get an error message.

"It is not available to you at this time. To see this preferences pane you may need to connect a device to your computer."

Any help on what can I do further?

I have the same issue on a Macbook pro 2017 and iPad Air 2. You can force Sidecar to show in the system preferences screen using a terminal command, but it still does not recognize my ipad/drop down menu doesn't do anything when clicked. Looks like an issue that will have to be fixed in the next beta release for us to take advatage of sidecar
