Finder Favorites Column width issue

10.11 seems to have an issue with setting too narrow of a column width for the leftmost column (Favorites, Devices, Shared, ...) when opening Finder. This issue only occurred since loading El Capitan, never prior.

It is so narrow that it displays like:

Anyone else seeing this?

I saw this problem first with Beta 3 and it's still present in Beta 4. I've tried various option click type window settings but none seem to persist on a window close.

This problem is not universal - I'm using Beta 4 too and don't have this issue. There are quite a few who do though: there are at least two other threads on the subject in the "More like this" list below.

Well, what makes you so special that you don't have this problem?! 🙂 Ugh. At least I'm not the only one that has it.

😁 A combination of luck and the fact that mine was a clean install (i.e. I didn't install over Yosemite) I think.

I'm seeing this issue, despite also doing a clean install.

Same here. Let's hope that they fix this in beta 5.

Same issue here as well. Upgrade from Mavericks.

Issue continues. I upgraded from Yosemite. I've tried deleting the .DS_Store file in the finder but no change noted.

The .DS_Store file is just where changes you make to a specific folder's appearance should be stored. Either it isn't being changed properly for y'all, or it isn't being read properly.

If it isn't being read properly then it should revert to default appearance (you could try finding and editing the .plist for that).

If it isn't being written properly then editing that .plist alone won't help - you'd additionally need one of those apps that immediately delete .DS_Store files as soon as they're created (BlueHarvest comes to mind).

Seems fixed in Beta 5.

Yes. It's fixed for me now. Beta 5 to the rescue.

Fixed for me in beta 5 as well!
