4.1 Design-Copycats: What does that mean?

Hello. I made an app that serves as a checklist to help find special items in one of the Resident Evil games. The app displays a large number of screenshots of the game, illustrating where each item can be found. Because of this, Apple's reviewer rejected the app for copycat reasons. The alleged reason is described below:

"Guideline 4.1 - Design - Copycats

Your app or its metadata appears to contain misleading content.

Specifically, your app includes content that resembles Resident Evil Revelations without the necessary authorization."

What does that mean? That I can't include screenshots of others games in my app? Is there any way to get around this problem while still using screenshots?

Accepted Answer

All screens images are naturally copyrighted by the creators of the screens. Therefore the use of a screenshot would have to be consistent with allowable uses under copyright laws. In your case, i.e. extensive use, you would need the explicit permission of the owners of the copyright - the publisher of "Resident Evil Revelations".
