updating apps & software update

I have had a couple of strange issues develop on my iPhone 6+ running the latest DP.

If I try to update any apps it shows the circle with a blue solid square in the middle but the download never progresses, it just hangs at the initial point.

I have tried to delete and re-download but same story.

I have tried downloading a new app I dont have from the 'featured' content on the App store - same story.

Also if I try to check whether there is a software update on the Settings -> General -> Software Update, it says "checking for updates" for ages and then I get a message, "Unable to check for Update, An error occurred while checking for a software update"

All was normal up to a couple of days ago. Wondering if anyone has seen similar problems? (I have seen a couple of reports of similar issues with the App Store.)

Did you check the release notes for the beta to see if this is a known issue? Did you report a bug to see if it's known there yet?

Hi dhunga,

I don't have (nor have I seen elsewhere) the issue you're having, but you can go some way towards diagnosing if the issue is with a glitch in your settings or to do with some conflict between Beta 5 and your particular config. by trying again after each of the following:

Hard reboot of iOS (holding home and power buttons until black screen)

Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

And, last, if you're prepared to re-do your settings again, Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings.

Max.

*sigh* I really hate smart arse replies like this. How did you think that was helping?

If YOU had checked the release notes you would know its not a known issue so why even ask?

Of course I havent yet reported a bug, I dont know if it is a bug or just an issue specific to me, hence my question.

Yep, thanks, dont the hard reset, next up as you suggest is a reset of network settings, then I guess I better try a re-install of the DP.

Ok Max, I did a reset of the Network Settings and it didnt seem to fix it, but then i followed it up with signing out of everwhere the Apple ID was signed in and then rebooting the phone before adding them back in.

Suddenly I could see the software version again and then I was able to start updating apps again, so I think it was probably a combination of everything I fiddled with!

In hindsight it doesnt help that I use various Apple ID's for different purposes on the phone!

Glad you got it sorted. And yes, multiple Apple ID's can be a nightmare when it comes to diagnosing an issue with an already complex array of potential underlying issues - I know just what you mean 🙂

To mark your question as answered (it goes green so that others can easily see there is a solution for it) you have to log in to these Developer Forums first (top left of this page) and then come back to this thread - you can use your own solution if you like. Also, If a reply was helpful, use the Actions menu under it to "Mark as Helpful"

I've seen this often in all of the ios9 betas. I've seen App Store updates hang for hours at a time, but generally they resolved themselves. One of my apps actually disappeared after a failed update and I had to manually reinstall it from the App Store.

During one debugging session, Xcode reported that it couldn't install my app on the device, due to an ongoing installation (presumably a hanging App Store update). I had to do a hard reset on the device to recover.
