Wallet now has Automatic Updates & Lock-screen alerts off by default

I noticed that with iOS9, Wallet (Passbook) now has 'Automatic Updates’ and ‘Show on Lock Screen’ switches off by default.

I hope this is a bug that can be fixed and not a new feature ?

99% of users never touch these switches - it will make it very difficult to send Pass updates or allow Location / iBeacon alerts to be used if these switches are ‘off’ by default ?

I submitted a bug report here: 22300988

If you think this is also a bug - please submit a duplicate bug request!

Same issue here, submitted a radar a few weeks ago (22089167) and got tagged as duplicate of yours.

By the way, submitted another radar (22089298) about another regression in iOS 9: pushing a pass update with a changeMessage to a locked iPhone (screen off) won't wake up the phone anymore. You need to wake your phone manually (home button) to see the notification message you just received.

Do you reproduce it too?

Just downloaded iOS 9.0 GM - the switches are still off by default.

This is a disaster!

Wow, this is not good at all.

Do you get any information from Apple on your ticket? Mine was just closed as duplicate without any explanation.

Is this on passes or in the Notifications section of Settings?

Notifications in Settings are OK for me on upgrade (just upgraded to GM), BUT that is an upgrade with an existing iCloud account, not a fresh install of iOS 9.

When I load a pass in this same configuration, automatic updates are turned on AND the phone reacts properly (lights up) when sending a change.

So, I'm not able to reproduce.

Can someone post the described scenario with pics so I can try to re-produce and voice my concerns as well?

Agree that if true, this would be a disaster! Lots of people wondering why their gate change message never showed up (among many other issues)...

To reproduce the issue, you need to load the pass into your iPhone using the built-in barcode scanner inside the Wallet app.

I opened another ticket (22736105) because mine was closed as duplicate and couldn't add new informations:

- The issue is still not adressed in the latest iOS 9 build (13A344)

- When loading the pass using the built-in scanner, the iPhone calls the DELETE method of the associated webservice to unregister itself instead of calling the POST method to register itself for push notifications.

This is broken for the end-user, but also broken server-wise since it triggers errors (the iPhone ask our servers to delete a registrations which does not exist...)

It still hasn’t been fixed in the official release of iOS 9, so this is a total disaster and show stopper in my opinion for anyone relying on a QR code and the Wallet scanner to add a pass. I can’t believe that this has been overlooked with all the hype around Apple Pay and Wallet.

We use a QR code on the front of our passes to incentivise customers to share their pass with others, so it renders this useless for anyone running iOS9. If anyone from Apple is reading this, please respond, as this is a major flaw that needs fixing as a priority.

I confirm this and it is a big problem for us.

We need to know if this is permanent or just a temporary bug.

What is the use of a digital pass if there is no alert on lock screen and automatic update?

We come back to dark age and print coupon on papers?

I'm having the same issue. Makes no real sense. If a Pass gets downloaded via Safari, "Automatic Updates" are enabled.

I filled a bug report https://openradar.appspot.com/22816943

In my logs, I see the same error as loris:

- When loading the pass using the built-in scanner, the iPhone calls the DELETE method of the associated webservice to unregister itself instead of calling the POST method to register itself for push notifications.

Bug still present with iOS 9.1 13B5110e

The issue is in Stackoverflow

I've submitted the bug to https://bugreport.apple.com (I'd recommend you to do the same if you haven't yet)

I heard that this issue is a bug - not some new feature (I was worried there might be a reason Apple changed the functionality for privacy reasons or similar).

It will probably be fixed soon - hopefully by when iOS9.1 is released (in October?).

I have just installed iOS 9.0.1 after being prompted to do so today and am unhappy to report that the bug is still present in this release 😟

I just installed the latest beta of iOS 9.1 beta 3 13B5130b (released 09/30/15), nothing has changed. "Automatic Updates" still disabled, Webservice is still not called correctly.
