I know what's happening - There is a timeout feature (15 mins) in iTunes mode that keeps the phone from getting the image burned in as well as being forgotten about in that mode - so if your network is slow, it won't download 8.4.1 quickly enough.

iTunes will have continued downloading the iOS 8.4.1 .ipsw file to the following folder:

Mac: (you can press shift+cmd+G from Finder and copy-paste the following into it):

~/Library/iTunes/iPad Software Updates/

Windows: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPad Software Updates

Copy or move the .ipsw file in there to your desktop and open iTunes again with your phone in Recovery Mode.

Windows: Holding the shift key, click the "Restore" option and select the .ipsw file that you moved to the desktop.

Mac: Holding the alt/option key, click the "Restore" option and select the .ipsw file that you moved to the desktop.

Let me know how you get on 🙂

Hi Kyyap852,

If you're a dev, then download iOS 9 Beta 5 from here: https://developer.apple.com/ios/download/ Then attach to iTunes and hold shift(Win) or option(Mac) while you click on "Update" - navigate to the .ipsw you downloaded and you'll be updated. If that doesn't work then I hope you have a backup.

If you're a Public Beta tester, a workaround is more laborious and involves going back to iOS 8.4 and re-enrolling - let me know.

Hi Max108 and kyyap852,

Im a public beta tester and I have the same problem from yesterday.

Do you think that is gonna be ok if I try to reinstal the iOS 8.4?

Hi Max,

As a Public Beta Tester, would this require a complete restore?

My phone hasn't backed up in a while and I presume that would mean losing everything?

Thanks for the help in advance,

Danny

Hi guys,

My iPhone 6 plus is working after reinstall iOS 8.4.1

Thanks for everything!

dude im not a dev im just a public beta tester, so wad i have to do now?

As a Public Beta tester, you are going to have to downgrade to 8.4.1 - this will wipe your device though. From there, you can restore to an old 8.4 backup if you have one or update back to the latest iOS 9 beta. So:

  1. Go to iCloud.com and disable "Find my iPhone" for your device - this will wipe it.
  2. Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
  3. Turn off your iPhone and leave it off.
  4. Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
  5. Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
  6. When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't try steps 3 through 5 again.
  7. When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.
  8. Accept iTunes prompt to restore it back on iOS 8.4.1

If you then want to go back to iOS 9, don't restore yet from a backup. Just reinstall the profile from https://beta.apple.com/ using Safari on your phone and update. You'll then be able to restore from your iOS 9 backup (Post a new question if you have any trouble with this).

Hi,

I am having the same issues as of Saturday. I have had to completely wipe my iphone 6plus and bring back to 8.4.1. After this i could not restore from my back up. It looks like my back up was from when I had the iOS9 beta, so have had to reinstall the beta to get my contacts, messages etc back to my phone. However it will not install and keeps saying

‘iTunes could not restore the iPhone “Daniels iPhone” because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone that is being restored’

Please help me as I need this data back on my phone. My phone is working but I have lost everything

Hi dkw1986, 🙂

I'm happy to help, but your needs are quite different from the OP's. If you post your own question, I'll try to get you restored to your latest 9.3 backup.

Hello,

I did the beta for my iPad mini 2. The beta expired and it is now telling me to activate. When I try it says failed to activate. When I go through the steps above and download the update, everytime it gets to 1.3 out of 1.9 gb it stops and says an error has occured. (-50) I tried to copy the file onto the desktop but when the error message pops up the file disappears. Not sure what to do.

Any help would be much appreciated!
