Handoff failing on one system with latest Beta

I had some trouble with Handoff on my mid 2012 MacBook Pro, but it has been working well with the latest beta. My Mac Pro 5,1 has been modified with an updated WiFi BTLE card and has always supported Handoff well since ealry Yosemite.

Since the Beta was working so well on the Macbook Pro, I updated the Mac Pro to the latest beta. After all updates, the General Preferences panel shows Handoff enabled. The Mac Pro was pushing messages from apps to the other systems (Safari pages, calendar stuff etc.,) but it would not show incoming data from other systems (iOS 9 or OS X.)

After I logged out of iCloud and logging back in, it now does not display any Handoff activity - incoming or outgoing.

What is the process to flush the iCloud and handoff data from the system so I can restart the connection process?

Any other ideas to restart the process?

I guess, I could try another local account.

The most comprehensive method of "resetting" Handoff / Continuity is as follows:

  1. Switch off everything you need for Handoff (including logging out of iCloud), as per this support article, on both your Mac Pro and your iOS devices.
  2. Power down your Mac Pro and your iOS devices.
  3. Reset your router, and wait for it to re-establish an internet connection (or at least wifi)
  4. Switch on your Mac Pro (only), and re-establish every setting as per the article linked to above.
  5. Switch on the iDevices, one at a time, and do the same.

-Max.

Let me know how you get on 🙂

I played with it some more this evening. I paired my iPhone with it. After that it was able to receive handoff from the iPhone. Shortly later, it started "seeing" the handoff from my MacBook Pro.

Not really sure, the pairing triggered it or just time. My mouse, keyboard, and trackpad are BT, so they all were running. But only the iPhone support BTLE. So it is possible that was the trigger.

Glad it's sorted for you.

It's normally just one peice of the puzzle that's missing and by playing around, you've found it. The steps I posted in my answer above is the fully comprehensive solution to getting it working because it methodically rebuilds the puzzle from scratch. 🙂

Well, the trouble is back. A fresh install on another partition did not solve it.

Will have to try all the steps...

This worked for me earlier today. Sometimes new betas (but not every time) would prevent continuity from working, and then one day it'd be on. I couldn't figure out why it happed but earlier today toggling it of and of and reseting seemed to help (maybe just toggling) would come back I coudln't figure it out. Toggleing the slider a few times seemed to get it back up

Did not help. It resulted in 4 days of iCloud mail resynching...
