Beta 8 Won't Install

Currently have Beta 7 (15A263e) installed. Beta 8 installer runs and restarts twice. When Mac (Pro 2013) reboots, Beta 7 is still installed, but some changes have been made: on launch, Photos displays the "Unsupported Library - The library "Photos Library" is from a newer version of Photos..." error. USB de-connectivity error - which had disappeared in Beta 7 - has returned. Only big inconvenience is the Photos bug though. Any others experiencing this...?

The full Beta 8 installer can be downloaded from https://developer.apple.com/osx/download/. Clicking on the download link there will give you a new code that you can redeem to download the full installer from the App Store.

15A278b is the build number of the latest beta - and checking from Terminal like that is definitive. And since Photos is now working normally and the USB drivers seem to have loaded normally now - you're there! 🙂

Hi Ehren,

I haven't seen that issue before but I wonder if the full installer might succeed where the delta fails...

Hi - When I click the provided link, the App Store launches and directs to the Redeem Code page with the message, "This code has already been redeemed." Do I need to do a Terminal shuffle somehow and flush the App Store's cache...?

It didn't give you a new code? If you hold alt/option while you click on the Purchases tab, it will let you download. Trouble is that I'm not sure now that it will be the Beta 8 installer and not the Beta 7 one...

I was able to get the installer to download and copy it from the Applications folder before it got deleted. Ran it just now and same result. Still stuck on Beta 7.

It was worth a shot... 🙂

Just so I'm clear, what does sw_vers -buildVersion return? And is the App Store still offering you Beta 8 from the Updates tab?

You think that the updater changed the Photos Library to a later version and messed with the USB drivers but are unsure of what else it did?

Terminal says I'm running 15A278b. The USB drivers seem to have loaded properly now (a minor issue in a Beta anyway). Photos works normally. App Store indicates no updates available. It shows the OS X 10.11 Developer Beta (Sept 02, 2015) as having been downloaded. I have that installer copied over to another drive from the previous go-rounds. I may try it again later tonight. Please keep the advice coming... Thanks!

Done. Thank you for your help. Do you know of a page I can hit to see a list of all of the OS X build numbers so I can keep checking as the updates flow in...?

There won't be many more updates before full release - just one or two GM candidates and a GM probably. The best place to get the current build number is the dev OS X download page (the one I linked to in my first reply). There's no history of OS X 10.11 beta builds being kept anywhere within a publically accessible Apple-domain site as far as I'm aware.

In case you're wondering, the full installer often seems to be a single digit behind the delta update - I noticed this with Beta 7 too - but it's only a nominal distinction.

installed GM Candidate...now getting the same "unsupported library" error for Photos. what now?
