How to resolve "Cloud Data Sync In Progress" error?

I've installed iOS9 beta and GM seed, and I am receiving an error: "Cloud Data Sync In Progress". In my case, I'm trying to create a Home with HomeKit.


I would appreciate any insight as to how to resolve this error? Is there a way to stop a sync? What is trying to sync? Why doesn't it complete?

It is HomeKit on your iOS device syncing with your iCloud version of HomeKit. A failed or stalled sync suggests that Apple are making some changes their end and HomeKit on your iCloud is unavailable or that you are having network issues on your end. To rule out the latter, you could try resetting your router or try another network.

The only thing I can think of is that there may be an authentication issue, in which case you'd need to reset the iCloud Keychain for HomeKit as follows:


note: when you follow this process, all home information needs to be rebuilt

1) navigate to Settings > iCloud > Keychain disable the iCloud Keychain setting.

2) navigate to Settings > Privacy > HomeKit select the "Reset HomeKit Configuration..."

3) navigate to Settings > iCloud > Keychain enable iCloud Keychain setting

I tried a different network and it may have helped. I tried several things, and it's hard to say what exactly it was (or if it was simply the passage of time if maybe Apple had something going on).


However, today, with another device, I encountered the same thing. In this case, I had turned on they keychain in settings but didn't notice the "activate" option that I had to use. Going back to settings, it showed as pending. After doing the activate. I got the same error, but in this case, it was doing a data sync...I just wish we knew it was actively doing something with a progress of some sort.

Did you try resetting your networks router? This helps with temporary network issues surprisingly often because it forces the iDevice to treat it as a new connection. I'm not sure we've answered your question, but if a reply was helpful, please click on the Actions menu at the bottom of it to "Mark as Helpful".

If you enabled iCloud Keychain sync and still can't get it to work, you may want to restart your device–this resolved the issue for some people.


Unfortunately we are now at a point were restarting the device solves a lot of weird issues–feels like Windows in the old days. 😟
