Unread Email Badge Not Correct

iPhone 6

iOS 9 GM

The Mail app badge is showing hundreds of unread emails, as is 'All Inboxes'. No atual inboxes are showing any unread emails. I've gone through all the inboxes and flagged them all to Unread and then back to Read but it doesn't clear the badge. In fact, when all the emails are flagged Unread, the difference between 'All Inboxes' and the total of the actual Inboxes is the number that shows in the badge when there are no unread emails (did that make sense?)

I've seen this in the past but it's usually cleared up by flagging the emails as Unread and then back to Read but as I mentioned above, that's not working this time. Any ideas as to why this would happen?

Thanks

I've done some additional testing and have tried the following:

Removed ALL mail accounts, after adding them back one at a time the unread email badge count is again not correct.

Removed all mail accounts and restored from previous backup with same results.

I'm going to create a bug report for this. I'll keep the thread up to date.

This isn't an issue with the desktop Mail app, it's the iOS version.

Is there some similar that be done with the iOS mail resource files?

Sorry, getting tired.

No, the closest iOS has to that is Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings. That won't affect your non-Apple app settings, but it will flush the native ones - possibly fixing the issue. You'll obviously have to re-do some settings after trying it of course...

Did you get anywhere. I have the same issue. The "unread" emails can all be found by searching the Inbox for Unread mails - many appear to be in a hidden ?temporary? folder called "x-apple-transient-drafts"

FIX!!

this is what i did to fix mine... open mail app... go to edit... make sure your unread folder is checked....now press done and go to the unread folder wait a few min and the badge number goes away
