New iPad Mini 4 Doesn't detect iOS 9.1 Beta 1

I just receieved my new iPad Mini 4, which came with the official release version of iOS 9 pre-installed. My old iPad has iOS 9.1 Public Beta 1 on it. In order to setup the new Mini 4 from a backup, it must be running the 9.1 beta.

I've enrolled the new iPad Mini 4, and installed the Beta profile on it, but it isn't detecting iOS 9.1 as a possible update... it is stuck at iOS 9.0 official release. Until I get iOS 9.1 installed on it, I can't restore from my backup.

HELP!

Everything you describe about your situation is accurate - the trouble is that you're so far ahead of the curve that you've fallen off! Apple simply hasn't updated their CDN catalog for the latest beta on the latest hardware just yet. It's just a matter of time though and, if you'd like to let them know you're waiting, you can best communicate via the bug reporter using a high priority status: https://bugreport.apple.com

This sort of thing will happen from time to time if you're on the beta path so it's always a good idea, if you rely on a device, to make an archive of a backup taken while running the latest stable release of iOS before updating to the bleeding edge.

I hope they add it to the catalog for you soon 🙂

Also, restarting the iPad is a way to manually cause it to check for a software update.

Sigh... Thanks 😢

Out of curiousity, how long does it usually take Apple to update their CDN cataglog? Is this a usual problem?

If so, there will be A TON of upset public beta testers when the iPhone 6s comes out next Friday!

I'm also in the same position. No downloads for 9.1 available in the dev centre for the new device and the public beta profile doesn't work at all. Currently unable to restore my iCloud backup on to the new device.

If you don't want to wait there is actually a way to restore a 9.1 backup to a 9.0 device. Since the difference between 9.0 and 9.1 is so small (effectively no new settings or anything) it's rather unlikely for there to be issues.

WHat you need to do is:

1. Backup your old device to iTunes.

2. Go to where the backups are stored, on Windows this is in %AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\791cdf4e127a627ba0113533e07f5c6c488038da on OS X I think it is in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup

3. Find the backup that belongs to your old device, if you just synced it'll be the newset one, look at the create times

4. Open the backup directory and find info.plist, open it and search for 9.1, when found, replace it with 9.0 and save

5. Restart iTunes and it'll now let you restore this backup to your new device even though it runs an older OS version.

Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes, I hadn't updated and with the last version it had touble syncing over all the apps, just stopped for some reason and unplugging and plygging in again caused iOS to forget the not yet synced apps and their data. With 12.3 all apps and their data synced over correctly in one go.

Also had an issue with it asking me to sign in to iTunes Store but verification would fail because of "Unknown Error", this cleared after I canceled it (several times) and got through the initial setup, maybe the iCloud login at the last step fixed it. Went back and did pass code and TouchID after that.

Apart from those two issues it worked for me. If you don't want to wait it doesn't hurt to try it, should there be an issue you can always reset and wait.

While I agree that installing betas is something that needs to be well considered, I think it's ridiculous that the minor update iOS 9.1 works on the iPad mini 1 (super slow device) and it doesn't on the latest and greatest iPad mini 4! After all it's unlikely that it could cause problem, but much more that Apple just forgot to whitelist the new device.

IT WORKED!!!

The restore worked, and my apps are currently installing!

If something goes wrong, I'll post again.

THANK YOU!!!

This worked like a charm for me as well. Thanks again for posting this solution so quickly!
