Review guidelines - iPhone only

I want my app to be made available on iphone only, much in line with what Whatsapp does.

However, this seems to violate Apple review guideline 2.10:

2.10 iPhone Apps must also run on iPad without modification, at iPhone resolution, and at 2X iPhone 3GS resolution

Does anyone know how Whatsapp did this and got their app approved?

All iPhone apps must run (without looking like crap on iPad), in what is called 1x/2x emulation mode, including whatsapp.

This doesn't mean those apps are native iPad apps.

If you configured your project/app as iPhone only, you're good to go.

You can test your iPhone app by loading it to an iPad simulator/device or via ad-hoc & iTunes to a connected iPad.

Hey,

when you say "without looking like crap on iPad"... as long as it looks like the exact same as the iPhone counterpart, would that be fine ? I mean, if running it on an iPad shows the exact same amount of content that running it on an iPhone does, then are we good ?

Yes, same as iPhone is the idea in this case.

At 1/x it will be native iPhone size in a window that occupies only a portion of the iPad screen. At 2/x, it will be the same only zoomed larger. There is no requirement that you make a special effort to categorically provide otherwise native iPad support.
