Embed video

does anyone knows how to embed videos in the text field for Apple News Publisher?

In the reference website they provide this bit, but there is no more information.

  "aspectRatio": 1.777,
  "URL": "https://www.youtube.com/embed/_p8AsQhaVKI",
  "caption": "Apple - WWDC 2015",
  "accessibilityCaption": "See the announcement of Apple Music, get a preview of OS X El Capitan and iOS 9, and learn what’s next for Apple Watch and developers.",
}

I'm trying to convert the video to markdown but it doesn't create a video object, just a link to a video.

DOESN'T WORK 😟

Hello cllamas,

Embedded videos must be called using separate components. Components should be called in the order you wish them to appear in the article.

The following code effectively creates a link to the video within the body text:

"components": [  {
  "role": "body",
  "identifier": "body-5652fd789ddde",
  "layout": "bodyLayout",
  "textStyle": "default_body_text_style",
  "behavior": {
  "type": "background_motion"
  },
  "format": "markdown",
  "text": "blabla \n\n [VIDEO LINK](https://www.youtube.com/embed/_p8AsQhaVKI) \n\n\n\n\n1e5-9f8c-a8d619fa707c.html#axzz3qysAXTpI) to prevent a supply crunch. The BBC's John Moylan says that \"only one large gas plant is under construction today\", while another gas plant that secured a subsidy last year \"is struggling to find investors\". To embed a YouTube video into an article above body text, please consider the following:

"components": [
     {
          "role": "embedwebvideo",
          "aspectRatio": 1.777,
          "URL": "https://www.youtube.com/embed/_p8AsQhaVKI",
          "caption": "Apple - WWDC 2015",
          "accessibilityCaption": "See the announcement of Apple Music, get a preview of OS X El Capitan and iOS 9, and learn what’s next for Apple Watch and developers.",
          "layout": {
               "columnStart": 0,
               "columnSpan": 7
          }
     },
     {
          "role": "body",
          "identifier": "body-5652fd789ddde",
          "layout": "bodyLayout",
          "textStyle": "bodyStyle",
          "behavior": {
               "type": "background_motion"
          },
          "format": "markdown",
          "text": "The BBC's John Moylan says that \"only one large gas plant is under construction today\", while another gas plant that secured a subsidy last year \"is struggling to find investors\". (This code assumes a ComponentTextStyle of "bodyStyle" and ComponentLayout of "bodyLayout".)

Is there a way to embed video in the "News Publisher" GUI?

Is there a way to add YouTube video embeds using the icloud based 'News Publisher' ?

I've tried adding variations of the YouTube URL into the article and I've tried cut and pasting the code suggested here. Neither works.
The only was I can get video into Apple News is to use a plugin direct from Wordpress (but then I have no control over layout and none of the advantages of using News Publisher).

Can't see anyway of adding tags either (through News Publisher).

Hello cllamas,

Video components and embeds such as YouTube and Vimeo are currently only supported when you deliver Apple News Format articles via the Apple News API. Articles created in News Publisher can include images, text links, pull quotes, and customized fonts and colors.

For more information on creating articles via News Publisher, see Create and publish articles (ANF) in News Publisher Help.
