Same icon, different apps

I have two apps that have the same purpose, but function quite differently. Of course, their bundle identifiers are different. But I'd like to use the same app icon for both of them.

Would Apple permit this? I don't want to wait a week or two for review, only to find I need a different icon.

You should modify the icon for one to differentiate between the two. Apple WILL notice.

Maybe not this time but, in a later update you will find yourself asking why did my

update suddenly get rejected over the icon. It IS important. I have a few apps that

fall into this, both are identical but one supports more features than the other.

One is just the normal icon, the other is the same icon with Pro emblazened

upon it. Do the extra work now or have to deal with it later.

There are many dual apps with almost identical icons - one has a simple "Lite" somewhere on it.

I doubt anyone (i.e. App Review) will notice except for many confused user - I'd add someting simple so they are distinquishable - perhaps a colorful dot somwhere.

Thanks to all for the advice. I'll keep the same symbol on the icon, but I'll change the background and foreground colours. That should suffice to differentiate the apps, but still indicate their unity of purpose.

For future reference, don't worry about what Apple will think, you should worry about what your customers think. That is the purpose of app review.

Customers may install both apps on their devices and at some point could tap on the wrong icon, wasting their time. Which is worse, waiting a few more weeks for review or getting extra 1 star reviews and unhappy customers?

I certainly agree with your general point. But in this particular case, the two apps have the same function, so it's unlikely that the same user would buy both of them. Nevertheless, I'm giving them separate icons, as people have recommended in their replies.
