Xcode 7.2 suddenly won't open binary .plist

Starting this morning, I noticed that any .plist that I try to open with XCode 7.2 can't interpret the binary nature and gives me the same gibberish one would get in a text editor. If I convert the .plist to XML, it opens fine and as one would expect (in the correct .plist view). But in binary, which most everything is... just junk. Nothing has changed on my system that I'm aware of...

ProductVersion: 10.11.2

BuildVersion: 15C50

Anyone else seeing this?

sounds a lot like someone changed the open as choice - right click your mouse on that file name and be sure the setting is for open as prop list

Already checked that, no luck.

I downgraded to XCode 7.1.1 and lo & behold, XCode now opens a binary .plist as it should.

Very strange. Very very strange.

Ouch - that is strange...if it persists should you move up to a later Xcode you may want to file a bug against the tools.

I'm seeing this in Xcode 9. Had to convert two plist files to XML.
