Same app name? Different country?

Hello Apple Forum,

I am currently building an app for the Apple App Store, however there is another app that exists with the same name/same spelling. The other developer's app is distributed in the UK, whereas mine would be distributed only to users in the US.

Currently, their app is only distributed on the Google Play platform, but have plans of distributing in the Apple App Store in the near future.

1) Given this information, will Apple allow me to submit my app to the Apple App Store assuming the other developer's app is already on the Apple App Store as well?

2) Will they allow me to have the same name, however keep my distribution limited to the US only?

Note: the UK based app works with 3rd party venues and therefore only distributes to users in the UK area.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

As for the same names, it's my understanding you can create an app for the store with the same name as another existing app if you choose a different primary language.

This is in contrast to making one app and localizing it for certain countries/languages, but I can imagine cases where distinct branding, as an example, requires certain bifurcation, etc. making the two-app-same-name solution a better choice. YMMV. Good luck.

Same app name? Different country?
