Submit similar apps with total different content

Hi everyone, I’m French so I'm sorry for bad English.

I have a question about this Review Guidelines :

Developers "spamming" the App Store with many versions of similar Apps will be removed from the iOS Developer Program

This applies to apps where the utility and the target is the same to avoid duplication or it also applies to all of apps who look alike ?

I would like to know if I can submit apps whose code is 90% similar but content is 100% different.

Let me explain : I develop news websites for different media. Recently I have developed an iOS application that displays the latest news for one of my client.

Can I take the same base code, structure and design to make an other app for an other client ? The layout will be the same but all of the content (news, title, description, images ...) will be totally different. Obviously, the colors, some of elements or functions, icons, screenshot, name, description, splashscreens ... will be also different.

An other question : If I can submit similars apps, can I submit those apps with my own developper account or I have to buy one developper account for each client ?

Thanks in advance, have a good day.

I believe you may submit apps with similar code but different functions - as in life, function and appearance are more important than code - no one sees your code (or your thoughts). I recommend you title the apps differently - rather than "News From Comapny A" and "News From Company B" and "News From Company C" make them "A News" and "B Today" and "C Happenings" to avoid the perception that you are 'spamming'.

And you may submit the app under your own developer account.

Your approach benefits from the 'branding' of the individual companies. But may I suggest a different approach - make it all one app and give the user the chance to select which news feeds/companies they wish to access. Develop your own 'brand' like "News On My Phone". Each client company would buy access to be included in your app, not their own app.

When talking about 'clients' for your app, you can consider either working as a contractor for the client and helping them to put a branded version of the app in the store under their account, or look into using Apple's B2B/VPP (volume purchase program) schemes where you sell the app in the store to various clients for their distribution to their employees/customers.

Of course, the titles of the apps will be different.

Your approach "all one app" is not adpated beacause each client is a different media so it want his own app.

It is as if I had to develop an app for New York Times, an other for Washington Post, an other for Los Angeles Times .. I can't put all in one because each want his own app.

Are your sure I can submit several similars applications on my own developper account ?

Thanks 😉

No one here can promise what app review will or won't allow. In theory, yes, you can, but it really comes down to the details and how app review interprets them.
