Multitasking How-To/Issues

Yes, I understand this is beta, and it's day 1. However, we got a nifty new feature, so I'm interested in seeing what everyone else runs into with it

First, if you didn't figure out how to activate the split, single-finger swipe from the right to acivate split view

Issues with split view:

1) If I split view, it doesn't appear that I can close the app in the right split or replace it with another

2) While I'm in split view, there does not appear to be a way to kill the right-split app. If I four-finger swipe, it does not show in the open windows unless I close the split. If I dismiss it, and then do a split, again, it shows up, again. If I kill it and the left-split app, and then try to split another app, the right-split app from the first app shows up, again.

3) If I have an app launched, open a split, then dismiss the left-split app, then relaunch it, it appears as if I have not dismissed it at all (try this with Safari, for instance).

4) If I open a split, then close the split, then four-finger swipe, the right-side app shows as if it is still running, and again, it does not seem to be killiable.

5) Split size does not seem to be editable for all apps. For some, it seems when you right-swipe with some apps (e.g. twitter), you seem to get a fixed-size split.

Did anyone get PIP to work? It doesn't seem to work for me with iTunes or YouTube.

Issues with split view:

1) You can if you swipe it back to the right OR Pull down to select another app in it's palce

2) Same as above

3) Same thing I see

4) Not seeing that one

5) I see the same

Picture in Picture - I've only been able to get it to work with FaceTime (and it works pretty dang amazing) It even works if you are doing multi-task split screen apps. I had Safari, iMessage both running and Facetime PiP all at the same time. (Air 2 of course).

I think YouTube, ESPN, etc all need to update the apps to take advantage of this feature. Watch ESPN just chrases on me.

Split view definitely appears to be a feature that apps need to support. Probably due to auto layouts. I have found it works with most native apps right now. I got PiP working by playing some HTML 5 video full screen in safari then hitting the home button.

Hmm. Also, now app-killing doesn't seem to work at all. If I have twitter and safari open, then dismismiss both, then launch one of them and four-finger swipe sideways, I switch to the other - even though they were both dead a moment ago. Anybody else?

And now I see how to switch right-split apps (only seems to work in right split, right now) - you drag down from the top in the right split to select another app to run.

Awesome about the HTML5 video! I bet becuase Safari supports it... The PiP is really pretty dang cool... You can essentially multitask with 3 apps 🙂

I've done the update to the IOS 9 beta and have the other new features but can't make the split view work!

Is it supposed to be just a swipe in from off the right of the screen while you're in an app? When I do it nothing happens, is there a trick to it? Do I have to turn some setting on?

As I recall from the keynote this is only available on the latest iPad Air. Are you using that?

Errm - OK, nope - a gen 3 iPad. That's a drag.
