Wifi connected but no internet

Have installed on rMBP mid 2014 installation was smooth and pretty stable for a beta. However It is picking up my home network and connects to it but no internet connection. Other devices including iOS devices are connecting and using the internet connection without issue.

Have also tried connecting to iPhone and iPad personal hotspots and internet still does not work.

I have run first aid and reset the Pram but none of these have helped.

Anyone else having the same issue.

Working fine here....

Can you give us some more info on your connection? When it connects are you getting an IP address? Have you done any diagnostics? Can you ping? etc?

Connected to a NetGear D6300 gigabit router. Can ping and I am get a response and an IP Address. But have also connected to iOS devices also. Same issue no internet. I have run diagnostics and get the error to contact ISP due to DNS issue. Everything appears to be normal.

Folks in the iOS 9 Beta forums experiencing the same issues... So it sounds like DNS... can you try to navigate to a webpage via it's IP address?

Can you try to manually set your DNS? Try Google DNS? 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4?

Cannot access web pages via IP Address. Have changed DNS but still no change. May very well need to do a complete new clean install.

Issue has now been resolved by a reinstall of the OS.

Reinstalled OS 10.11 which resolved connectivity. Then, re-installed BETA 2. Internet connectivity for a few minutes, then none.

Do you have Norton Internet Security installed? This has been an issue for other users I've seen on the forum. Also, I know I've experienced issues with them for OpenVPN on Yosemite even.

Uninstalled Norton Internet Security. Re-installed OS X Beta 2 - brief Internet at startup then drops.

I have:

iMac Retina 5k

4GHZ Core i7

32GB Mem

AMD Radeon Graphics

Had to re-install OSX 10.11 which has stable Internet Connection. Will wait for next beta release?

Same here. Apparently it is related AGAIN to mDNSresponder. Try to kill this process manually when stuck and give me a feedback, please.

Best,

A.

I've found I cant access the internet after each sleep. The solution for now seems to be turn WiFi off then on again a few seconds later. This fixes the problem even if I am wired to the network.

This worked perfectly. So two issues - if you don't have Internet access do a complete uninstall of Norton Antivirus AND force-quit mDNSresponder. All connectivity appears resoved. Thanks Mistshoo!

I have Norton, which may be the issue, did anyone try to just uninstall Norton without reinstalling el capitan? Because how would you reinstall el capitan without Internet connection? Using recovery?

I am still having the same issue, but don't have Norton installed. Setting DNS to 8.8.8.8 doesn't sort it, neither does killing mDNSResponder.

I had the same issue, and uninstalled Norton without reinstalling el capitan. It worked.

  1. In the Applications folder, open the Symantec Solutions folder, and then double-click Symantec Uninstaller.
  2. In the Uninstall Symantec Products window, select the check box next to the all Norton applications.
  3. Click Uninstall.
  4. It will then prompt you to Restart
  5. Restart

I have the same issue with El Capitan beta. I've got a 2015 MBP, no Norton.
