iBooks won't open a book

[Retina MacBook Pro 15", model 10,1]

Since installing El Capitan, iBooks opens and allows me to see my library, download existing purchases etc, but won't let me read any of them:

- open iBooks

- double-click on any of the books (for example "The Swift Programming Language" from Apple)

- mouse cursor disappears

- nothing else happens

After that,

- moving the mouse restores the mouse cursor

- iBooks seems to continue functioning normally (you can select books, change category etc) apart from this inability to open a book

Anyone else?

Yes, and the default font of this book is bold!

I'm unable to even open iBooks. It crashes immediately and will not open.

Identical behaviour for me... no-go opening any iBooks under El Capitan...

Any update on this issue?

I am using iBooks version 1.2 (825) and I've reinstalled 10.11 Beta 5. So far everything works including reading. You did not include any versions so I am unsure of your environment.

Nota Bene

  1. In my version of iBooks, double-clicking the Swift books opens a sliding drawer effect (showing four books).
  2. Double-clicking a book not downloaded prompts me for login to the Book Store with my apple id.
  3. Double-clicking a specific, already downloaded book, opens the book.
  4. With the book open, I can move the mouse to the right near the middle edge of the page perimeter (these are invisible until I hover over them)
  5. Once I click the right arrow, the left arrows becomes available (although these are still invisible until I hover over them)

Hope that helps.
