10.11 hangs at white screen on boot

After the reboot for the installation on 10.11 on our test macbook pro the machine boots to a white screen and will not go any further. I can't boot to safe mode or hold option to choose a boot device. the PRAM reset does not happen either.

Has anyone run into this or did it just brick my test laptop?

I've seen this (on older versions of the OS) when there's peripherals plugged in to the Mac. Do you have anything plugged in to it? If so, try and disconnect everything and see if it'll progress beyond this screen.

nothign plugged in. I even unplugged my internal hard drive to try to boot off of a USB install image and got nothing.

I'm getting this too. I've unplugged everything, but stuck trying to boot. Can't get into recovery or safe mode either.

anyone else see this? I'd like to not have to go buy a new machine because of this...

I've seen something similar but only intermittent. Fortunately, after I unplugged my Belkin USB hub (and all of the external disks) I was able to get my Mac to boot. So far, it's been up for 20 minutes without dropping back into a reboot cycle.

Later: Now, my Mac doesn't even boot - I turn it on and all I see is a black screen. The only thing (USB) plugged in is my keyboard.

Even later: My Mac boots now but the UI freezes after seven or eight hours of use.

I do not even get that for. I dont have a single thing plugged in.

I have a feeling I am stuck with a bricked macbook now
