Scaled resolution not working on 2015 15" rMBP / 10.10.4 beta

For those thinking of trying 10.10.4 on a 2015 rMBP, there's at least one gotcha: Copied from Radar 21325956

The scaled resolution in system preferences does not function properly in 10.10.4 14E33b. Each of the resolutions is misplaced , and they are out of order. Resetting the SMC does not correct the situation. S

Resolutions are in this order:

1280x800

1600x1000 (blurry)

2048x1280

1024x640

1440x900

1600x1000 (one step up from the default in 10.10.3) appears to be blurry in 10.10.4.

Yes, confirmed. The last two resolutions in your list, 1024x640 and 1440x900 are HiDPI resolutions. The first three are not.

After the problem occurred, I installed SwitchResX and discovered the above resolutions were being set.

In SwitchResX I was able to change the resolution to 1920x1200, but not in HiDPI. That choice is not in the list.

What is your laptop model? I'm curious if this only happens with the discrete Radeon GPU, or if it also happens on the Iris Pro-only model.

I have already filed a bug report: 21327895

15" with dGPU - but this was with the integrated chip active. Plugging in an external monitor (triggering the dGPU) results in the same behavior.

I'm having this same issue on the latest 2015 model with the high graphics. I cannot figure out how to fix it. Making me insane!

We are out of luck until Apple fixes this.

I attempted to create a custom resolution in SwitchResX of 3840x2400. This is the resolution that must be present in order to get 1920x1200 HiDPI.

Upon reboot, the resolution could not be chosen, as it was Inactive, which according to SwitchResX means that it is an invalid resolution. Apple borked something in the video driver, evidently.

O crap i just installed the update and yes, its stuck in low rez graphics for me too. Newest macbook pro. Gone to shi#.. feels like 1995 again and cant seem to fix it no matter what i do. Even worse is that this was one of those auto updates that i recklessly did while I am mid travel so I am stuck with this in a different country and have alot of work to do 😟

for what it is worth, i installed 10.11 to see if they fixed this and indeed it works as expected so thats an option for anyone stuck.

And Retina Resolutions are STILL broken on 14E36b.

Thanks - I had to downgrade as part of a replacement Mac (bad USB port), so I'll hold off on the upgrade until it's fixed.

Yep, they just closed mine as a duplicate, so they're definitely aware of it. Hopefully fixed in the next build.

Because point releases do not replace the Recovery partition, it is possible to revert to 10.10.3. Apple has responded to my bug report asking me to test my system in El Capitan. We know that works, of course. I will probably do this in an external HD.

Anyone know if it's fixed in the GA?
