When trying to access my iPhone running iOS 9 within iTunes on El Capitan, i get the rainbow wheel.
Accessing iPad with iOS 9 works, but unable to access iPhone at all.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I am getting the same thing. I have a few other devices still on the latest iOS 8. After force shut down of iTunes, I can sync them but as soon as i plug in my phone (6) and click on the phone icon on the top left, I get the rainbow wheel and iTunes gets stuck again..I have El Captain on the mackbook.
Has anyone figured out how to get your backup onto your iPhone 6 plus after upgrading to IOS 9 beta?
Seriously, Ive not been able to use my phone is the last 5 days because it's constantly join a state of doing nothing but freezing.
I have let it sit for over 13 hours and still nothing. When I open the force quit window it shows iTunes stopped working, so I am forced to restart over and over and over. I am currently on restart 47. I'm not kidding.
I have tried using my iPhone 6 plus back up - freezes
I've tried using my business partners backup - freezes
I got desperate and tried using my iPad Air 2 - it started, it actually dumped my 630 APPs randmanly onto pages (no longer in assigned folders) and I thought I can deal with that "I'll just reassemble the folders manually - I'm not picky at this point", but sadly after a 13 hour wait only one APP transferred.
Finally this morning I did the unthinkable (if you own 1700 APPs it's unthinkable - trust me <lol>) and did a clean install. Guess what? Same exact problem even just tryng to copy over 2 APP.s In fairness it did let me sycn my music and my books, but I did that in separate stages to not **** iTunes off.
HELP! Any suggestions?
Same issue here: iTunes on OSX 10.11 syncs fine with my iPhone 6 (iOS 9) but once the iPad Air 2 (iOS 9) is connected, iTunes freezed with the rainbow wheel. Both devices are connected via USB to my iMac. I guess it is an issue with iOS 9 on the iPad - I got the same issue connecting my iPad with iOS 9 to iTunes running on OX 10.10.
Same issue for me.
My iPhone 6 would not sync with iTunes after install iOS9.
I did get iTunes to sync by accessing iTunes menu bar.
iTunes/File/Devices/SYNC
iTunes/File/Devices/BACKUP
This allowed the sync and backup to occur, but I am still unable to access the phone icon in the iTunes menu bar.
Enough frustrations with iTunes sync/backup as well as power drain, I reinstalled iOS 8.4 while I wait for iOS9 beta 2.
Yep, same here. Lucky for me I got it installed before it ceased to cooperate. I've been able to work thru iCloud and keeep the iPad Air working. Bummer though
I am experiencing this with iOS9 Beta 2 as well.
I think I may have identified a trigger, when I first installed the beta it synced fine, but as soon as I disabled iCloud Music Library, iTunes started freezing as soon as I clicked on the icon.
I took the advice of someone easlier in this thread, and can sync/backup using the menu bar.
But I can now not change any settings at all.
This also crashes iTunes if I plug my iPhone into my Windows PC, so I think it is an issue with iOS9 on the phone.
Can any of you confirm if you also disabled iCloud Music Library?
I found that disabling Find My iPhone in iCloud Settings solved the issue. I found this solution by trying to "Restore from Backup..." from the File->Devices menu bar option. An alert was presented asking me to disable Find My iPhone before restoring. After doing so, the UI could be accessed without triggering the hang.
I switched of "Find My iPad" in the settings menu of my iPad but still get this error that iTunes freezes. My iCloud Music Library is switched on. Btw. my iPhone syncs with iTunes even the "Find My iPhone" setting is switched on.
As with several others in this thread, whenever I try to select an IOS 9 device via the little device iconon the iTunes button bar, iTunes freezes.
Following some suggestions here and elsewhere I have tried the following:
None of the above made any difference.
One thing to note, if the device dropdown shows the device names, you can eject them from the dropdown and sometimes, if you are lucky, select them. If the device name is not shown and the dropdown lists only generic device types, such as "iPhone" or "iPad", then you are SOL and iTunes will hang no matter what.
All of the above occurred with any IOS 9 device, Beta 1 or Beta 2, connected to iTunes 12.x.x on both OS X 10.10.4 Beta 4 and 10.11 Beta 2.
The issue has been fixed on my side with the ne iTunes version released for Apple Musice (12.2).
