Free Use of an App for Employees?

Hello--We've just had an app successfully accepted by Apple and will be hitting "publish" to get it into the app store soon. The app is free to download, but then content can only be access with an in-app purchase subscription (monthly or annually).

How do I give employees in my company access to the app for free? Do I add them to the iTunes Connect accout?

If I wanted to offer a month's free subscription to possible subscribers, is that possible with promo codes? I see a lot of disputed information about this so would love some clarity, if anyone knows.

Thank you!

How many 'employees'...

How much thought have you given to not using the store?

FYI, IAPs can't be distributed via promo/redeem codes - confirmed.

There are no promo codes for in-app purchases at this time. So it's not possible as far as I know. There was some talk of it a year or two back and one high profile developer (EA) was actually given the chance to publish promo codes for an IAP, but nothing for the masses yet.

If you don't verify the IAP receipt, maybe you could set up your employees as TestFlight testers, so they can buy the IAP for free while using the test version. Then if you just persist a simple flag or keychain entry to say it's been purchased, and don't verify the receipt, when they switch back to the App Store version the flag will still be there.

But I suspect with subscriptions you kind of have to verify the receipt so we're probably back to square one which is no, you can't do that.

I fear you can do what I fear others can do. Create an iTunes Account with a credit card that has limited spending power. Purchase the app under that iTunes Account. Purchase a single subscription under that iTunes Account (it only costs you 30%). Tell all of your employees the username and password for that account and have them download under that account and password. A subscription must be copyable to all devices owned by the same user. In effect, you are saying that your company 'owns' the employees devices in so far as they are using the app.

Alternatively, and simpler and fairer, just reimburse employees 70% of the cost of the subsccription. After all, Apple is providing a service to your business for which they should be reimbursed, if not you.

Now that's a good idea.

Unless it becomes a benefits package issue, with taxes, unions, fair access and doesn't require two years worth of contract negotiation.
