After a reboot (not sure if the same thing happens after logging out?) the items in the left sidebar of finder windows reset to be the default arrangement (All My Files, iCloud Drive, AirDrop, Applications, Desktop etc etc). Little bug which is super annoying. Anyone else suffering the same issue?
Finder Sidebar Items Reset
No, but when I try to open or save a file (any file in any software) the Finder window which pops up has none of my favourites shown in the sidebar at all. It is fine if I open a Finder window manually.
Yes it is definately doing it on my end too except mine is reducing to a 1/2" squeeze look. I have to pull it out each and everytime to be able to read each thing.
Yes, I have tried "changing the look", then closing the file, and reopen to see the saved changes - except it doesn't save the changes
No, I don't have anything long as a title name that makes the sidebar need to be freakishly long. LOL
No, I don't have an unusual amount of items on the sidebar - just the normal Apple stuff plus 5 of my own
Yes, I have tried force quiting FINDER
Yes, I have trashed the "com.apple.sidebar files (locked and unlocked) then restarted my computer even using COM+OPT+P+R
Yes, I have tried trashing the finder prefs
Yes, I have tried quiting DropBox then all of the above again.
The result is always the same: 1/2" sidebar showing only the first 4 or 5 letters of the name of the item
But here's something interesting... Today's "update all my drives" day, so I'm moving drives from computer to computer as some things are on this computer, some are on that. If I take a drive that was connected to a computer with the "collapsed" sidebar (about 1/2" wide - very annoying) and connect it to a computer running 10.10... the drive opens with the same 1/2" window bar. It's like it "tagged" it that way to always do it that size If I leave that window open and open a new finder window double clicking the Mac HD icon - all other windows are fine. If I save that window to where I can read everything, then it stays, until I go to a computer with "beta 3" installed.
I had hoped the beta 3 1.0 fix that corrected the 32 bit apps would have a correction, but it doesn't.
So yes this is something new in beta 3 because it was not in beta 1 or beta 2
<grin>
I'm having Finder issues as well. One I posted already dealing with the "Open With" function. The other is the Finder does not remember how I size it. I expand the sidebar width to be able to read the items but as soon as I close the Finder window, it resizes itself to where it was before I changed it. Happens on two different installs.
The preferences for individual folders are kept in the invisible .DS_Store files in each folder.
Based on the details of your account of your experience, I'd guess that Beta 3 is failing to update them for some people.
A Bug report should be filed by someone.
You could try to make them visible with this command in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YES; killall Finder
If you delete the .DS_Store in a given folder and then change the column width then Finder will create a new one, which should work even on Beta 3.
Obviously you can make "invisble" files invisible again by substituting NO in the above command.
Thanks. I'll try this. It only really bothers me on the main Finder look, as I am either ytrying to locate specif user folders on the sidebar, or HD's that I have installed and somethings there's quite a few launched and it they all start with Seag.... it's hard to see which is what without moving it every single time. I'll try your suggestion though
Finder does not remember sidebar width and graphical errors on some Finder windows randomly. *sigh*
