Safari was working just fine on my Imac after rebooting, it now crashes. I am also running it on my macbook pro and no problems. I am also getting indications of java problems on the imac but not on the macbook pro. I have tried reinstalling the os without any success. Anyone else???

Did you erase and install? Also, try not to install Java. Keep things simple and lean as much as you can to narrow it down.
I have been using Safari 8.1 without incident so far on 2 MBPs. One tab (Twitter) crshed one time.
I have been having the same issues. Twitter.com would crash every single time. Reboot and update to OSX 10.11 Beta 5 had no effect.
I looked in to Java as @smlombardi suggested. This seems to have done the trick. No need to even re-open the app, you can keep Safari open just simply disable Java:
Safari Pref > Security Tab > Plug-in Settings > uncheck Java from the left panel.
Open Twitter and enjoy!
