Messages does not show any camera now

Whe using messages, the camera icon is completely missing. Also much more important, there is nothing that is allowing to share anyones screen now. This is a major thing to be missing. The camera does work with FaceTime.

What about top right, details? Was that always there?

Also missing for me. It's becasue my Mac doesn't think I have a camera connected. I have a Mac Pro so the camera is actually a Logitec USB webcam. I guess El Capitan is 'missing' the drivers for now.

Well, duh, you left that critical part out.

Same to me.

Using a MacBook Pro Mid 2014. No camera symbol is shown. In Messages->Settings the complete Section for camera / sound is missing.

Camera is recognized and working with any other application e.g. Photo Booth and Facetime.

Same here, no camera, that is with the built-in camera on my iMac. Works ok on Skype.

This is explained in the 10.11 release notes:

"Known Issues

  • The built-in and connected cameras may not work in some Apps.
  • AIM video chat and screen sharing in Messages are not available in this beta."
