Is the Auto unlock only from an Apple Watch? Was hoping to see it from an iPhone as well!

Depends on which platform they want to sell more of...
Just a note, I noticed while reading through the realese documents for the macOS beta that the current seed DOES NOT support Auto Unlock!
So don't risk the beta for OS X (macOS) yet just for the Auto UNlock.
Is auto unlock with apple watch on the beta available?
Pg. 4 of the Release notes: "The ability for your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac is not in this seed"
Auto unlock from your iPhone wouldn't be very secure unless it required you to use touchID to authenticate. And you may aswell just type in your password in that case. It's considerably easier for somebody to steal your phone and use it to unlock your Mac than it is for somebody to get the watch off your hand without breaking skin contact.
