Dark Mode?

I am visually impaired. So, the rumors of a new Dark Mode got me excited! I was very disappointed that there was no nention of Dark Mode in Monday's Keynote.

For me, it is much easier to read white text on a dark backgroubd. Yes, Invert Colors accessibility feature helps a lot. However, it also inverts the color of images and photos as well. :-( So, at times, I have to frequently toggle Invert Colors. Yes, assigning the toggle to Home button triple-tap helps but still gets annoying after awhile. A system-wide Dark Mode would be a dream come true which I have wanted since the iPhone 3GS.

In iOS 10, the only new app sporting a dark mode is the Clock app. The Compass app was dark in iOS 9. I also am hearing about a hidden Dark Mode setting in the iOS 10 simulator in Xcode 8. So, my hopes of a system-wide Dark Mode is not completely dashed, yet. I just hope Apple is not waiting for OLED iDevices to be released first since such a mode uses much less power on OLED displays.

Any thoughts about this? Thanks!

Someone around the Interwebs seems to have found a hidden dark mode. I wondered why it would be there if they didn't show it at WWDC, but...

That comment would explain it perfectly. Perhaps it's under implementation still for OLED devices only, would not be an usurprising move by Apple to restrict it on those devices. But it it could just be a marketing move as well to announce it with those devices having the best support, clearly there's no reason it can't be had on the existing devices.

i saved my following statement for a comment so I only risk this comment being deleted by the moderators instead of (hopefully not) deleting the whole thread.

Yes, it can be done on current devices. The Eclipse tweak from doing a particular thing to iDevices which Apple strongly frowns upon proves it is possible. :-)
