ITMSTransporter returns "Invalid reference_name '$fieldValue'"

When submitting updated in-app purchases information to iTunesConnect through ITMSTransporter or Application Loader, I get the following message for a few of the in-app purchases:


ERROR ITMS-4134: "Invalid reference_name '$fieldValue' for in-app purchase with product_id='XXXX' - longer than 255 bytes." at Software/SoftwareMetadata


although I didn't alter the reference_name, it is as it was when the in-app purchase was created.

And it is of course not longer than 255 bytes.


Any ideas?
