Submitting apps to Chinese App Store (SAPPRFT approval)

Hi everyone,

We're planning on releasing an App in China later on this month.

We've recently read that apps going onto the Apple App Store in China now require a government approval process by SAPPRFT (State Administration of Press, Publications, Radio, Film, and Television).

Does anyone know about how this process takes place? Do we submit our app to the App Store as usual and Apple requests SAPPRFT's approval, or do we seek SAPPRFT's approval, and then submit to the App Store with some sort of certficate of approval?

Dear StoryBox-

Did you have to comply with government approval process by SAPPRFT (State Administration of Press, Publications, Radio, Film, and Television) while submitting the app for the China Store?

Generally speaking, although all games distributed in China are technically required to get a license from SAPPRFT, at present time the Chinese regulatory agencies are more strict on games and apps that generate revenue (through either in-app purchases or ads) than those that do not. The Apple App Store currently requires a Chinese games license number for games that have in-app purchases.
