Fingerprint limit reached MacBook Pro 2019 model with TouchBar

Hi Everyone,

It would be amazing if anyone has a solution for my problem (seems, based on some Googling, I'm not the only person with this issue).

I have the 2019 MacBook Pro with TouchBar (T2 Security chip) and experiencing the "Fingerprint Limit Reached" issue when trying to add a new fingerprint, although there are no fingerprints registered on the Mac.

I have tried the Command "xartutil --erase-all" Which was a nightmare with a T2 Security chip as it deleted my data.

I reset my MacBook pro, and tried many other suggested solutions like resetting the SMC, and still no luck...

Kind regards
Are you on Big Sur?
I am facing similar issue on my MB 2016 Pro with T1 Security Chip.
Tried everything on the internet still no luck.

The same issue but for MB 2016 Pro with T1 Security Chip
I'm on Big Sur, but the problem appeared before it.

Error message:
"Fingerprint limit reached.
To add a new fingerprint, remove a fingerprint from any account on this Mac."

I got the problem as soon as I upgraded to Big Sur a couple days ago. I'm on a MB 2017 Pro with the T1 Security chip. I tried the terminal trick with no success.

I found myself unable to use my macbook pro touch id. When I try to change or add a new fingerprint it says : "fingerprint limit reached" I went to safe mode and tried all the steps you mentioned. I took the mac to the sore and they claimed that needed to change the logic board but weren't sure that would solve the issue. It happened just after I updated to big sur. The most annoying thing is that the guys at the genius bar were aware of the problem but tried to convinced me to leave it like that. They said it could be a firmware issue but weren't totally sure. I went through all possible causes and It could be a disconnect from the logic board and the enclave where touch id biometric data is stored. The button works well but the message next to it to touch the ID panel does not show anymore. Apple is aware of this issues but so far I cannot find any updated information about a solution.
