El capitan Beta 2

I am unable to download El Cap Beta 2, as it says my code has already been redeemed.

* Updates in the App Store only shows the previous Beta 1, that wouldn't install at all (El Cap doesn't my hard disk in beta 1, this was similar in yos beta 1).
* I need to do a clean install of beta 2 (as beta 1 wouldn't install, i can't simply update it)

Does anyone know a way around this, some way to remove the previous "purchase" of beta 1, or reset my redeem code some other way?

Any ideas would be awesome.

If you already installed El Capitan Beta 1 - then go to MacAppStore > Updates > and look for an udpate and install.

If you have not installed the beta 1 but redeemed the code - Go to MacAppStore > Purchase History and install

Hope it helps

Thanks Max108,

Will this pkg work to upgrade Yosemite->El Cap Beta 2?

My issue is that El Cap Beta 1 would not install on my system, so i can't just upgrade it.

So i am hoping to go straight from Yosemite to El Cap Beta 2.

I did something similar with Yosemite Betas, where the first beta wouldn't work on my system, but Beta2+ did work.

No. The pkg is used to update from beta 1.

Apple does not provide full package for beta 2. It just provide beta 1 and after intall it, you can update to beta 2 in beta 1.

However, since your issue is beta 1 does not work, I think you should wait until publie beta release in July, then you can try that.

Also, there may be some method to integrate this pkg to beta 1 install app, then you can get a workable full installing package on beta 2. I don't know how to do that. But I think that is also a good way that you can look into.

Accepted Answer

This is observed history based, so Apple could do anything, but the developer preview (betas) release cycle has usually been a new beta every two weeks (approx), however, that two week cycle usually only appears/arrives as software updates. For fresh full downloads and combo updates usually every three or four betas, so expect a full download, and/or combo update in August, any sooner will be Apple wanting to test something related to the full install process.

Exceptions to the two week cycle have commonly been first (WWDC) to second beta release has usually been three or four weeks (so having a second beta now is unusual, and I've always thought it being due to Apple's own developers being at WWDC, I guess they have so many now, some were able to continue working). When they are nearing release, the last beta to gold master gap has often varied widely from a few weeks to less than a week, and in a couple of cases there was more than one gold master. And lastly when a major issue has cropped up (usually in the form of major bugs in a beta).

I hope this helps.

Could you elaborate on the trouble you have installing DP1 - it sounds like you've downloaded it okay, but that you can't install it from your Yosemite partition. Is that correct?

If so, you could:

  • Refer to the following support article for how to make an installer on a temporary partition/USB/external drive: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201372
  • Reboot, holding alt/option, and choose the new installer partition/drive. It should be fairly straightforward from there.

The install media works ok, it boots into the installer fine too. It opens up the grey dialog screen with "19mins remaining" as an initial value, and then 2-3secs later gives the error message i mentioned earlier.

It seems to be hard-coded to not allow me to continue with the install as it can see my MBR is different than what it knows, and i don't know of a way to force it past this screen.

When upgrading from Mavericks->Yosemite, the yosemite installer gave the same error, but allowed me to continue anyway.

Hope that helps?

I'm afraid that you have to get DP1 installed as it is the only full OS.

Beta 2 and Beta 3 only contain changes - also there is no way to integrate the betas into DP1, there simply isn't.

So, have you tried deleting the DP1 installer you have (because it sounds like it may be corrupted) and redownloading it from the Purchases tab of the App Store?

Also, please repeat the error message you get, you said you mentioned it earlier, but I can't seem to see it. Thanks.
