iPads: MDM/Apple Business Manager/Apple Configurator 2

Scenario:
  • 60 iPad Tablets already purchased

  • That need to be locked in Single App Mode/Kiosk

  • All signed into with a single Apple ID

  • Every tablet set up is identical

Issues:
  • We constantly get pops up for verification/Authorization due to the one account been signed into every tablet

Must have Requirements:
  • Have a master Apple ID, and to remove any verification/Authorization pops up

  • SAM or Kiosk so only one app is available, and it is locked from reboot/startup

Nice to have (Not essential)
  • Over the air: Configuration (initial setup)

  • Over the air: to update iOS and App versions

  • Over the air: Reboot

Questions:
  • Do we use ABM or Configurator 2?

  • Does every scenario require Configurator 2

  • Do we require an MDM instance? If so what do you recommend?

Hi,

I think you need to use both ABM and Apple Configurator.

The best scenario I see is the following :
  • Use a MDM

  • Open an ABM account and link it to the MDM

  • If the app you need is int the App Store, "buy" it from the ABM

  • Configure your MDM (Disclaimer : I'm a French reseller of Hexnode MDM) for device Enrollment (Push notification, Configurator URL...)

  • Create your minimum configurator profile/blueprint

  • Create your MDM policies

  • Enroll your iPad in Supervised mode

  • Push policies to devices

  • You're done :)

You will be able to manage the Kiosk mode over the air, reboot device (if in supervised mode), update App OTA and many more configuration options.
