Apple Watch won't pair in iOS 9

I have an Apple Watch running watchOS 1.0.1, and an iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 9 (Beta 2).

Immediately after installing iOS 9 (I skipped the first beta), my watch remained permanently disconnected from my phone. I tried toggling Bluetooth, toggling Airplane Mode, and restarting both devices, but nothing worked.

I followed the steps in Erase Your Apple Watch and erased my watch. I now get the following results:

  • Automatic pairing - Set up as new watch: Hangs and then unpairs after I tap that I wear my watch on left or right wrist
  • Automatic pairing - Restore from backup: Hangs and then unpairs after I select a backup
  • Manual pairing - Shows successful pairing screen, but no button appears to set up as new / restore from backup

Since I can't get past the pairing steps, I can't really think of any other troubleshooting options. Any ideas?

Same issue. A bunch of us do. Hopefully Apple issues a fix or workaround soon.

rdar://21518538 if any Apple engineers want to see my iOS device's console logs.

Frustrating. Is it just when going directly to iOS 9 b2 or is it more widespread?

Someone found a fix for it. You go to settings, general, reset, reset all settings.

This worked for me - but I had to reset all settings a few times. I found that after I set a lockscreen passcode and logged out/in from the Apple store it worked. But I did a reset all settings about three times and it still failed,... something was magical in that fourth attempt,....

When you say that you reset all settings a few times, do you mean that you reset all settings on the watch, then setup the watch as new (as opposed to restore from backup) and then reset a few more times?

I am stuck in the situation that aaron2000 is in, where after the reset, the watch starts pairing, goes to "new/restore" screen and then goes back to the language selection screen again. What I do notice is that the Bluetooth connection on the phone becomes not-active (i.e., icon goes to light grey, instead of being lit up) a couple of seconds after the restore starts. I am on iOS 9 Beta 2 as well and had skipped Beta 1.

Per another forum message, "Reset All Settings" in the phone's Settings app fixes this for many people. Unfortunately it messes up your phone quite a bit - you don't lose app data, but lose all of your settings like fingerprints, wallet, background, iMessage on/off flag, etc, etc.

I bought a new Apple Watch today and it failed to pair with my iOS 9 Beta 2 iPhone 6+. The watch/phone would say it was paired but then go back to language selection after selecting which wrist it was on.

Resetting all setting 3 times did not work. Finally worked by erasing the entire phone and starting as a new phone setup (the pain of running beta!). I did not try restoring from backup after getting the watch to work. decided to start the phone over from scratch anyway.

Kevin

I did this and seemed to do the trick. However, my watch is taking forrever to sync. It;s been about 30m and it does not seem to bemoving past ~15%. How long did yours take to synch after doing this?

It ended up working. Sync took almost an hour.

My solution did not require resetting my phone. On my iPhone, I signed out of iCloud and the App Store, and turned off iMessage. The watch paired perfectly afterwards. After the watch was synced, I signed back into iCloud/App Store and turned on iMessage.

Although for some odd reason, it deleted my 'Activity' (Steps and Workout) for the last two days (and lost my consecutive days!) - I was finally able to pair my Watch back after over 6 tries to re-pair it!

I am facing to the same issue. Now I cannot use my Apple Watch anymore since I follow the guild to reset my watch but unable to re-pair again. What should I do now? Bring it to Apple Center or waiting for the next OS release?
