lately we're seeing something troubling: customers often complain that they bought a renewing subscription or that a subscription should have renewed, but the app is not giving them the paid content. "Restore purchases" does not fix the issue, but deleting the app and re-installing does fix it.
According to debug logs that customers can send to us, it seems the apps (multiple affected!) cannot find the App Store receipt file in these cases. It seems either the URL returned by "appStoreReceiptURL" is wrong or there really is no receipt. That has me worried a lot. We had at least one customer where the subscription worked fine, then it got renewed and the receipt file was gone (or at least was not at the place "appStoreReceiptURL" is reporting any more).
I haven't noticed a reproducable pattern yet, unfortunately. I've seen another forum entry (https://forums.developer.apple.com/message/183382) talking about a similar (the same?) issue. Indeed, I have only seen this on iOS 10 systems up until the latest 10.1.1, iOS 9 doesn't seem to be affected.
Are others affected as well? Is there some change in StoreKit in iOS 10 that I'm not aware of? Is there anything at all that we can do to fix this?
