Serious issues with recovery mode / password reset

I went to log onto my 16” 2019 MacBook Pro today (Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2)) and the computer wouldn’t accept my password. I did password recovery to try to force reset. This opened recovery mode which now forces recovery assistant and doesn’t allow terminal or utility access. Despite connecting to wifi successfully in using the wifi logo in the right corner, recovery assistant claims there’s no internet and would not verify my AppleID. I tried booting into recovery mode with internet using command + option + r and had the same issues. The computer does not see that it’s connected to internet. The only way I was able to get in was by deleting my computer from my AppleID with my phone, logging into my AppleID again, and being allowed to reset the FireVault key. It also forced me to change my AppleID password 3x via my phone throughout this process.

I’m not sure what bug is going on but it took me several hours to even get into my computer when I knew the password, knew my AppleID password, and had connected to wifi repeatedly with each boot. I even tried using my hotspot instead to no avail.
