Bad quality of scanned documents

Hey guys, facing the issue that scanned documents on my iPhone 12 Pro Max with Files app are pretty bad quality. Guess it started with iOS 15 beta 3.

Unfortunately issue still persists with current non beta iOS 15 release. It‘s the same on iPad OS 15.

When I launch ‚scan with iPhone’ using Preview app on macOS quality is good as always. Hence looks like issue is related on files app or PDF processing on iPhone.

Have anybody else seen the same?

Thanx and cheers, Flory

  • I have noticed the same thing.

  • I have the same problem with iOS 15 release and iPhone 7. Before of update it worked perfect.

  • I have the same problem on my Iphone X with IOS 15. Can the IOS dev team improve the scan quailty of pdf please?

It appears 15.1 has fixed this issue.

  • I am also facing the same issue. Bad quality when scanning with Files. Good quality when scanning with Notes. But Using files app goes easy.

I am still experiencing the same issue. iOS 15.0.2 iPhone 13 Pro Max

Scanning in Apple Notes works fine, then saving to files saves a good quality but saves receipts as A4 or Letter size documents.

scanning directly to the files app has the same problem as stated previously, good quality on previewing the files and low resolution on saving to Files App

  • The same issue - iPhone 12, iOS 15.0.2. At the preview I see images with good quality, but after save the whole document I see compressed images with bad quality in final PDF file.

I have the same issue on all ios devices, for that reason, I use the scan from onedrive app until Apple fix the issue, works perfect.

Yep same issue. 12 pro max on 15.0.2

Same here. Noticed bad quality all of a sudden. iOS 15.0 on iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Same issue. This needs to be addressed and hot fixed ASAP.

Yep, got the same issue. With iOS 14 everything was fine. Since iOS 15.0/15.0.1/15.0.2 the scan quality is bad.

Problem solved, just used Notes for scanning the document, then saved to Files and it’s sharp. This is a temporary solution until Apple fix the saving pdf in the Files.

This problem is now fixed in iOS 15.1 Beta 4. Final version will soon come out.

Same problem on iPhone 8 and iOS 15.0.2. So useful feature, but useless in fact.

  • Hi Marc, please try to update to update to 15.1 which has been released yesterday - the issue has been fixed there

has been fixed with iOS 15.1 - Thanks so much for fix and to all users posting in this thread

The issue with 15.1 is only resolved for new models of devices. It has been fixed with my 2020 iPad Pro, but hasn't been fixed with iPhone 8. Scans with iPhone 8 are still unusable compared to scans taken like half year ago. Resolution is here but image is blurry, like this part has been changed on purpose for older devices. Made many test scans with both iPad and iPhone, compared with many scans done with iPhone half year ago (this is my work tool so have planety of those). To dig further into detail, the flaw is not in "generating/saving pdf" anymore, but already visible directly on iPhone screen after taking a scan, before saving. Like the focus algorithm has been changed and not whole document is in focus now. No matter what I try the text and signs that are usually at the bottom of the documents on both sides are always blurry. Double checked normal photo taking to make sure it's not physical flaw on the lens. I am really dissapointed. I don't like the idea this is product ageing on purpose here. Any ideas?

It is still NOT FIXED in 15.2, iPhone SE 2016. The picture seems to be OK, but the exported pdf has very low quality, an A/4 page is 86 kbyte :( This is useless without quality settings :(
