Guideline 4.2.2 - Design - Minimum Functionality

We still noticed that your app’s main functionality is to market your service, with limited or no user-facing interactive features or functionality. Apps that are primarily marketing materials or advertisements are not appropriate for the App Store.

We encourage you to review your app concept and work towards creating an app that offers customers an engaging and lasting experience that also meets the App Store’s high expectations for quality and functionality. For example, an app for a restaurant should offer more functionality beyond a standard mobile website that include its phone number, address, and hours. You should instead include functionality like table reservations, mobile ordering, etc. that do not currently exist on the mobile website.

Hello i am getting this robotic response from testers and not able to get any images or proofs that my app is minimally functioned. Also on asking reason they just go AWOL.

What should i do about this and how do i get in touch with the tester or supervisors at apple ? Also i have emailed many times but got no response.

I think tester are neglecting the testing as they are just being paid to open and close the app, that is my presumption but still it can be true no one knows, until apple tells us how apps are tested and what goes through the tester mind or what is the reason when they are rejecting the app. We need a much listed details where we are given that this things are missing so that we can improve them and provide a well suited app for Appstore.

Guideline 4.2 explains what the concept of minimal functionality means:

Your app should include features, content, and UI that elevate it beyond a repackaged website. If your app is not particularly useful, unique, or “app-like,” it doesn’t belong on the App Store. If your App doesn’t provide some sort of lasting entertainment value or adequate utility, it may not be accepted. Apps that are simply a song or movie should be submitted to the iTunes Store. Apps that are simply a book or game guide should be submitted to the Apple Books Store.

And 4.2.2 explicits this in a specific case.

4.2.2 Other than catalogs, apps shouldn’t primarily be marketing materials, advertisements, web clippings, content aggregators, or a collection of links.

Reviewer cannot tell: add this and that to meet the requirement. That is hopefully app-designer decision. It just illustrate with a use case what type of functionality could be added.
