I am writing to submit a feature request for the iOS API that would greatly benefit parental control applications by providing the ability to monitor audio time on iOS devices.
Currently, the iOS API includes the Screen Time framework, which offers valuable insights into overall device usage and screen time statistics. However, it does not provide specific functionality to track audio time. As such it is not possible to track the amount of time children spend listening to music or audiobooks.
The proposed functionality could include the following features:
Audio Usage Statistics: Enable the iOS API to collect and provide detailed information on the duration of audio playback for different applications and possibly media sources. This data would give parents a clearer understanding of their children's audio consumption patterns. Ideally these usage statistics would store historical usage as well.
Real-Time Monitoring: Allow parental control apps to monitor audio playback in real-time, enabling parents to actively manage and set limits on the duration of audio usage. This functionality would provide parents with a proactive tool to guide their children's media habits.
Integration with Parental Control Settings: Integrate the audio time monitoring capabilities seamlessly with existing parental control settings in iOS, such as screen time limits and content restrictions. This would provide a unified experience for parents, allowing them to manage all aspects of their children's digital activities from a single interface.
By incorporating audio time monitoring into the iOS API, you would empower developers to create more robust and effective parental control applications. This enhancement would contribute significantly to promoting healthy media habits and fostering a balanced digital lifestyle for children using iPads.
