Behavior of Auto-Renewable Subscriptions After Discontinuation

I would like to inquire about the behavior of auto-renewable subscription products after their distribution has been discontinued.

My understanding is that there will be no further renewals after the distribution has been stopped, but can users still restore their access if they are within the subscription period?

Replies

No further renewals for IAPs in status Developer Removed from Sale (or Removed from Sale), correct, and users should be able to access what they paid for with the previous renewal until the end of current subscription period. You can also notify Apple of your intention to remove an IAP from sale, and prorated refunds will be issues where applicable.

Before removing your in-app purchase from sale, take the following steps to help ensure a smooth experience:

  • Announce your intention to remove the in-app purchase from sale and stop merchandising it within your app at least 31 days before removal. This lets people use up any consumable in-app purchase products they purchased. You can leverage your own communication channels such as email, websites, and in-app messaging. If you’re unable to provide sufficient notice to users, contact us.
  • End any promotions of the in-app purchases to discourage purchases.
  • Notify Apple of your intention to remove an in-app purchase from sale. Apple reserves the right to offer refunds for unfulfilled in-app purchases.
