Republish the app with the same App name

My customer has app with "X" app name in App Store with version 1.2.1

Now he wants to publish a fully new app with the same "X" app name and 1.0.0 version

1) I've tried to delete previous app by deleting it from the sale. But when I try to add a new app it says:

The App Name you entered has already been used

2) Then I try to delete the app from iTunes Connect but got this message:

The app will be deleted from iTunes Connect and you won’t be able to use the app name or SKU again

Can I publish a new app with the same name?

Confirmed - when deleting an app, the name goes back into the pool for everyone but you.

To avoid losing access to the original name (nameA), first update that app (appA) with a new, throwaway name (nameB), immediatelly grabbing nameA and using it for the new app (appB).

Later, if you like, you can delete appA w/nameB.
