Optical zoom on iOS devices is achieved by switching between the different lenses. You do not have control over this during an ARSession, thus you cannot implement optical zoom and run an ARSession. You are welcome to file an enhancement request for the functionality you are trying to build using Feedback Assistant.

One way to implement "object distance measurement" would be to determine what area of the camera image constitutes the object (perhaps by using an object detector), and then utilizing the depth values in the corresponding area of a depth map.

As I mentioned previously, you cannot implement optical zoom for an ARSession. However, if you decide that you don't need an ARSession, and you are using AVCaptureSession directly, then you should read up on the primary constituent device switching behaviors. In short, the system will decide when to switch to a particular lens if you are using a virtual capture device (like the triple camera for example).
