Can no longer add keychain lock status to the menu bar:

I used this all the time to "lock" my macbook while leaving apps running, unlike locking the screen which "pauses" the apps.

There's now a "Lock Screen" under the Apple menu. Now it's available for all, no longer hidden, and no longer requires a novice or casual user to open the Keychain Access app.
I used the icon to open my keychain application, several times a day.
I also use this all the time to quickly lock my computer when away from my desk and would like to have the lock icon back in menu bar.
"Lock Screen" is now in the Apple Menu. Or press Control-Command-Q.
Is there a way to restore the old functionality of a simple lock icon in the menu bar, as opposed to navigating to the apple menu then selecting lock screen or pressing a keystroke combination ?
Laugh if you will and I await criticism but the simple lock icon was fast and easy.
genuine helpful replies appreciated
UPDATE:
Chatted to Apple tech online.
Apparenty this function was deliberately removed to stop morons messing with the keychain processes and getting locked out.
As usual Apple treating end users like morons. Happy days
since I used that functionality in the top bar -- I also noticed it was missing.
of course, I'm also constantly fighting Xcode and keys/certs -- so I'm often going into the keychain access... now, sure, I can make a shortcut and/or search.
Yup, I found the key shortcut for lock screen -- it's very close to command-q (oops! where did my app go?) . it's very close to shift-cmd-q LOGOUT? NO NO NO STOP! ctrl-cmd-q ? Yes, I am getting use to it by carefully placing my finger on control (which is caps lock, for me), then cmd then q.
This change is annoying. Why not let non-moron users CHOOSE to put this setting back?
Also, PLEASE give us a way to map ` to ESC
not having a physical key for ESC is a killer deficiency for at least me (emacs? shell? etc.
It was bad enough when ctrl-space was changed in Xcode ... but I'm not sure \/\/tf apple is thinking these days.
butt, hey, at least I can do this:
