i installed beta 2 and waited for the progress bar of it installing. Like many people it didn't go all the way but all it was trying to do was restart so I finally forced restarted it. Now the bar goes all across and I type my password in **** it just sits there with the color wheel forever. What do I do?

To diagnose the problem, could you please try booting into Safe Mode (Shift key at startup, until you see the progress bar) and then booting normally, but with all internet access removed.

aalready tried that. didnt fix it.

Then I'd suggest booting into Recovery and doing a "repair install"

hhow do I do that? Thanks

Actually any install that isn't explicitly an erase-and-install is a repair install - i.e. it won't affect your user data & files etc.

You boot up holding cmd+R. The full details are in this support page:

https://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT201314

The normal update process takes place in two main phases. The first, before the installer reboots your computer, and the second phase that begins after the restart but before you are asked to log in etc.. If the installer didn't/couldn't make the necessary change (the creation of a 0-byte file or entry in a plist) that precipitates the second phase then that can cause the situation you have now - a partially updated system that crashes before the login screen. Recovering OS X via the method above is your best fix at this point.
