App restore "Waiting" - developer needs to update to work with iOS 11

I updated my new iPad Pro to iOS 11, and did a restore from iCloud. Many apps are "Waiting" and when you click the app, message says "xxx" Needs to be Updated. The developer of this app needs to update it to work with iOS 11. Do you want to keep the data previously saved by this app.

If I click Keep, the app sits and says Waiting. If I click Delete, the app goes away.

My question is, are the Apps that are "Waiting" draining battery? I don't mind them being there, and would rather not loose the data from some of them, but if they are draining battery, I'll delete them.

Thanks in advance

Apps that do not start are apps that were showing the dialogue “this app needs to be updated to 64 bits”. I’m pretty sure the waiting state is just an information to the user that the app is not gonna work until it gets updated. So the waiting is “waiting for an update, don’t bother clicking on me again”. The app won’t consume CPU or memory or energy resources as it won’t ever start at all.

It may not be that simple, I did the same thing, restore from iCloud when I installed iOS 11 on my new iPad Pro 10.5

I had loads of apps saying waiting and even folders full of apps saying waiting, these were not 32 bit apps and I waited hours for them to download, but there were so many that I decided to do a clean installation and download the apps again from the App Store.

This worked out great, iPad is running really fast and I think Pinterest is the only app I’ve had a problem with.

I’ve seen a few people post about apps greyed out and saying waiting, I think the problem is something to do with iCloud personally, for the most part that is.

Try downloading some of the apps that you’ve deleted and see how that goes.

Thanks for the info. It seems the apps that are waiting don't show up in the App Store - so I'm guessing it is a problem with them not beign either 64 bit, or iOS 11 compatible? There is only one app I'd like to keep the data from. Funny, one of the apps is Google Earth. So do you think its causing a battery issue? its only showing App store using about 3% over the last 3 days. You think its okay to just leave those apps in the Waiting state?

>So do you think its causing a battery issue?

More than likely it's simply about how betas typically lack routine power management, especially early in the cycle, which is where you are now.
